Why Blind Installation Matters

Level, Centred, and Anchored Right

Crooked blinds are an everyday eyesore. The real problems show up later: brackets that pull out of drywall, blinds that don’t close evenly, gaps that let light leak through.

Inside vs Outside Mount

Inside mount (within the window frame) is cleaner but requires precise measurement. Outside mount (on the wall above the window) hides ugly frames but needs taller brackets. We'll recommend based on your windows.

Levelled to the Wall, Not the Window

Many older Toronto windows are slightly out of square. We level brackets to the wall (which you see), not the window edge — the blind sits visually correct.

Right Anchors for the Surface

Wood window frame: standard wood screws. Drywall above window: snap-toggle anchors. Concrete sill: masonry anchors. We bring all options.

Cord Safety

For homes with kids or pets, we install cord cleats and tension devices to keep cords safely out of reach. Required by current safety standards for homes with kids under 8.

Motorized + Smart Setup

For motorized blinds (Hunter Douglas PowerView, IKEA FYRTUR, Lutron Serena), we mount them, set up the hub, configure the app, and program basic schedules.

Final Adjustment

After install, we test full open/close, tilt action, and (for cellular) light gap. Any binding, sticking, or uneven action gets adjusted on the spot.

Energy-efficient honeycomb cells for insulation. Light-filtering or blackout. Cordless and top-down options. ~$180 per window.

Roman Shades

Folding fabric shades that gather as they raise. Adds soft fabric texture to a room. ~$180 per window.

Motorized + Smart Shades

App-controlled, voice-controlled (Alexa, Google), schedule-controlled. Hunter Douglas, Lutron, IKEA. ~$220-$300 per window including app setup.

Painting FAQ

Common Questions

Inside mount or outside mount — what's better?
Inside mount: blinds sit inside the window frame, cleaner look, but window must be at least 1-2" deep. Outside mount: blinds on the wall above/around the window, hides ugly frames, blocks more light. We’ll measure and recommend during install.
Can I install blinds on a concrete condo wall?
Yes. For exterior wall windows in condos, we drill into concrete with a rotary hammer and use proper anchors. Outside-mount works better than inside-mount on concrete walls.
Do you supply the blinds?
Most customers supply their own (from Blinds.com, Hunter Douglas dealers, IKEA, Costco, or Home Depot). For complex sizing or custom shades, we recommend ordering ahead — we can measure first and you order to spec.
How do I measure my windows for blinds?
For inside mount: measure inside width at top, middle, and bottom — use the smallest. Measure height left, centre, right — use the longest. For outside mount: measure the area you want covered, add 2-3" on each side for light blocking. We can come measure for $150 (deducted from install cost).
What about motorized blinds — do they need wiring?
Battery-powered (most common): no wiring needed. Batteries last 1-2 years. Hardwired: require a power source nearby — usually an outlet. For new wiring, we’d need a licensed electrician.
Can you install on rental units?
Yes — but check your lease. Most tenancies allow blinds with prior notice to landlord. We use proper anchors so removal damage is minimal (small drywall patch when you move out, easy to fix).
What if a blind is the wrong size when you arrive?
We’ll let you know and reschedule. You shouldn’t pay for an installation that can’t happen. Most blind retailers allow returns for incorrect sizes — we can advise on what to do.
Do you remove and dispose of old blinds?
Yes — included if you want. We carefully remove, optionally donate good ones to Habitat ReStore, or break down and dispose of damaged ones. Small drywall patch where old brackets were.
How long does a whole-home install take?
Average 3-bedroom home with 10 windows: 3-4 hours. Add an hour for motorized blinds (app setup). Add an hour if removing old blinds. Allow ~30 min per window as a planning rule.
Will the blinds look uneven on uneven windows?
Older homes often have window frames slightly out of square. We level to the wall, not to the frame — the blind looks correct even though the frame may be off. If the gap between blind and frame bothers you, outside-mount fixes it.
