The Details That Matter

Hung Right, Hangs Right

Curtain rods look easy until they sag, pull out of drywall, or hang crooked in a way you can't unsee.

Mounted High & Wide

Designer technique: install rods 4-6" above the window frame and 6-8" wider on each side. Makes windows look taller and ceilings higher. We'll explain on-site.

Anchored Properly

Heavy blackout curtains can weigh 15-20 lbs each. We use heavy-duty snap-toggle anchors when studs aren’t available. Cheap plastic anchors fail in 6 months — we don't use them.

Centred & Level

Centred over the window or wall (your choice), bubble-level confirmed, and brackets aligned so the rod doesn’t bow in the middle under curtain weight.

Right Rod for the Curtain

Lightweight tension rod for sheer curtains. Sturdy ½" rod for medium curtains. ¾" or 1" for heavy blackouts. We'll recommend based on your curtain weight.

Decorative Finials

End caps that finish the rod look. We install whatever finial style you bought — basic, ornate, modern, traditional. All firmly tightened.

Bracket Setbacks

For double rods (sheer + blackout) we install with proper spacing so curtains don't bind. For motorized tracks: tight fit to wall.

Curtain Rod Types

Every Curtain Rod Style

From basic tension rods to motorized smart tracks.

Single Rod

Standard rod for one set of curtains. Most common. Brackets at each end, sometimes centre support for wide windows.

Double Rod

Two parallel rods for sheer + blackout combos. Sheer in front, blackout behind. We install with proper offset spacing.

Decorative Rods

Wrought iron, brass, antique brass, brushed nickel — with custom finials. ~$150-$220 per window depending on style.

Tension Rods

Spring-loaded rods that wedge between frames. No drilling required. Best for lightweight curtains in renter-friendly installs. Quick (~20 min) but limited weight.

Wraparound Rods

Curved at the ends, hugs the wall. Great for blackout effect (no light gap at sides). Pairs well with blackout curtains.

Motorized Curtain Tracks

App-controlled and voice-controlled. Lutron, Switchbot, IKEA FYRTUR. Includes hub setup and basic automation programming.

Painting FAQ

Common Questions

How high should curtain rods be mounted?
Designer rule: 4-6" above the window frame, or even up to the ceiling for floor-to-ceiling drama. Width: 6-8" wider than the window on each side so curtains stack on the wall when open (not blocking the window). We'll explain on-site so you can pick what looks best.
Will the rods support heavy blackout curtains?
Yes — we use heavy-duty wall anchors rated for 25-50 lbs each. Cheap plastic anchors that come in the rod box are often inadequate — we replace them with proper snap-toggles when needed.
Do you supply the rods or do I?
Most customers supply their own from IKEA, Bouclair, HomeSense, or Wayfair. We can source if you prefer (15% handling fee). Honest tip: avoid the cheapest tension rods for heavy curtains — they slip and sag.
How long does curtain rod installation take?
Single rod, standard window: 30-45 min. Double rod (sheer + blackout): 45-60 min. Wide window with centre support: 45-60 min. Whole-home (8-10 rods): 2.5-3.5 hours total.
Can you install on concrete or brick walls?
Yes — common in older Toronto homes and downtown condos. We bring masonry drill bits and proper concrete anchors. Slight extra time (~15 min per rod) but no extra cost beyond hourly.
Will you hang the curtains too?
Yes — included. We mount the rod, slip the curtain panels on, hang it, and adjust pleats so they hang evenly. For curtains with hooks or grommets, all included.
Can you install over a window with an existing valance or hardware?
Usually yes — we can install above an existing valance for a layered look. For old hardware that needs to come down first, we remove and patch the existing anchor holes (small drywall patch).
What if my windows are different heights or widths?
We can install rods at coordinated heights across different-sized windows so the room looks visually unified. Width is set per window. We discuss layout on-site before drilling.
Can you do motorized smart curtains?
Yes — Switchbot Curtain (battery-powered motor that clips to existing rod, $80-$120 per window), Lutron Serena (high-end motorized rod system), IKEA FYRTUR (motorized blinds that pair with curtain rods). Includes hub setup and app programming.
Do you anchor into wall studs?
Yes when possible — strongest mount. For wide windows where brackets don’t align with studs, we use heavy-duty snap-toggle anchors that hold 50+ lbs each. The rod feels equally solid both ways — the difference is in repair if you ever remove.
