We turn off the breaker before touching wiring — not just the wall switch. Then we test with a non-contact voltage tester to confirm. No exceptions.
Wire nuts of the correct gauge, tightly twisted, wrapped with electrical tape when needed. Loose connections cause fires. We do this right or not at all.
For heavier fixtures (chandeliers, fans), we verify the existing junction box is rated for the weight. If not, we'll stop and recommend a licensed electrician to upgrade it first.

Ladder work creates dust and debris. We use drop cloths under work areas, vacuum dust, dispose of old fixture if you want.
