How Pricing Works

Honest Pricing, Explained Plainly

No estimates that magically grow at the end. No call-out fees buried in fine print. Here’s exactly how we price every job.

1

$150 Minimum Per Job

Every booking starts at $150 — that covers our travel, tools, and the first hour on site. A 30-minute fix is still $150 because we’ve already dispatched the team.

2

$90/Hour After the First Hour

If your job takes longer than one hour, we bill $90 per additional hour in 15-minute increments — you only pay for the time we’re actually working.

3

Renovations: Project Quote

Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and any job over a day get a fixed project quote after a free in-home consultation. No hourly meter, no surprises.

4

Materials: Your Choice

You can supply the materials (paint, fixtures, hardware) yourself, or we’ll source them and pass through cost + a small handling fee. Always your call.

What you WON’T see on your invoice:

Trip fees · Diagnostic fees · “Convenience” surcharges · Materials markups over 15% · Weekend premiums · Hidden minimum charges

Hidden Costs to Watch For

7 “Surprise” Fees Other Toronto Handymen Charge

Some contractors quote a low hourly rate and make it back with hidden add-ons. Here’s what to ask about before booking anyone:

!

Trip / Call-Out Fees

$50–$100 just for showing up — charged whether they touch a tool or not. We don’t.

!

Diagnostic Fees

$80–$150 to "assess the problem" — even if you don’t hire them. Our estimates are free.

!

Weekend / Evening Surcharges

25–50% premium for non-standard hours. We charge the same rate Monday through Saturday.

!

Materials Markup (Hidden)

Some contractors add 30–50% to material costs without telling you. If we source materials, the markup is at most 15% and disclosed.

!

“Difficulty” Surcharges

Vague upcharges added at the end ("the wall was harder than expected"). Our quotes are firm unless you change the scope.

!

Disposal / Clean-Up Fees

Extra charges to haul away old fixtures, packaging, or debris. Clean-up is always included.

!

Bait-and-Switch Pricing

A low hourly rate quoted on the phone, then padded with mystery line items. Our $150 minimum is the floor — never a surprise.

Pricing FAQ

Common Questions About Pricing

How much does a handyman cost in Toronto?
Our rate is $90 per hour after the first hour, with a $150 minimum charge per job. A short repair (under an hour) costs $150 because the minimum covers travel and the first hour. For larger projects (renovations), we provide a custom quote after a free consultation.
Why is there a $150 minimum charge?
Dispatching a handyman to your home has fixed costs — vehicle, fuel, tools, and the time to get there. The $150 minimum covers all of that plus the first hour of work. If your job only takes 30 minutes, you still pay $150. The best value is bundling multiple small jobs into one visit — the minimum only applies once.
Are there any extra fees I should know about?
No. We don’t charge trip fees, diagnostic fees, weekend surcharges, or hidden material markups. The only thing not included in our hourly rate is materials, which you can either supply yourself or have us source (with at most a 15% handling fee, always disclosed).
How accurate is the calculator estimate?
It’s a starting point based on typical conditions for the job type you select. The actual price can shift based on access (3rd-floor walk-up vs. ground floor), wall material (concrete is slower than drywall), existing damage, and specific requirements. We always confirm the final price before starting work.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes — all RenoHeal estimates are 100% free with no obligation. For small handyman jobs, we can usually quote you over the phone in 5 minutes. For renovations, we’ll come for a free in-home consultation.
How much do handyman renovations cost in Toronto?
Renovations vary too much for a flat range — bathroom renos typically run $8,000–$25,000, kitchen renos $15,000–$60,000+, basement finishing $25,000–$50,000+. The actual number depends on size, materials, scope, and complexity. We always provide a fixed project quote after a free in-home consultation — no hourly billing on renovations.
Do prices vary by city or area within the GTA?
No — our rate is the same across Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga, Brampton, Aurora, and Newmarket. We don’t charge premium rates for downtown jobs or extra travel for suburbs within our core service area.
Is the minimum charge the same for emergency or same-day work?
Yes — same-day and emergency work are billed at the same $150 minimum + $90/hour rate. We don’t apply emergency surcharges. The only consideration is availability: same-day slots fill up fast, so calling early helps.
Can I supply my own materials to save money?
Absolutely — for most handyman jobs (TV mounts, paint, light fixtures, faucets), you can pick up materials yourself and we’ll install them. You’ll only pay for labour. If you prefer convenience, we can source materials with a small handling fee disclosed upfront.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Interac e-Transfer, Visa, Mastercard, and cash. Small jobs are typically paid on completion. Larger projects may have milestone payments outlined in the project quote.
