DIY drywall patches usually announce themselves — lumpy bulges, visible edges, mismatched paint. Proper repair takes the right tools, the right technique, and patience for drying.
Larger holes need a backer (drywall scrap, mesh, or wood support) so the patch doesn’t flex. We don’t just slap mud over an open hole.
Each layer of joint compound needs 8-24 hours to dry before the next. Skipping this gives you cracks within months. Large patches are 2-visit jobs.
The trick to invisible repairs is sanding the mud out to feather-thin edges that blend smoothly into the surrounding wall surface.
Fresh mud absorbs paint differently than aged wall. Without primer, you get a visible ‘flash’ spot in the right light. Always primed before paint.
Sanding drywall creates fine dust that gets everywhere. We mask off doorways, sheet floors and furniture, and vacuum thoroughly when done.
If your wall has texture (orange peel, knockdown), we match it. Smooth walls are simpler. Heavy textures (popcorn ceilings) are quoted custom.
From tiny nail holes to door-knob blowouts and water damage. Each type has its own technique.

After a fixed leak: cut out damaged section, replace with new drywall, mud and finish. Stain-blocking primer essential to prevent the stain showing through.
Hairline cracks at door/window corners are common in Toronto homes. We open the crack, mesh-tape, and feather mud to prevent reappearance.
